Joint Mobilisation

Joint Mobilisation

Joint mobilisation is a manual therapy intervention, a type of passive movement of the joints use by the therapist. It is a technique designed to relieve pain and muscle spasms, release tension and improve flexibility. Also helps to move the synovial liquid inside the joint and helps to align correctly different structures.

It can be applied in many types of injuries but are very commonly used in the spine when there is Lower Back pain with disc pathology and nerve impingement. The most common mobilisations are Maitland and they are graded from 1 to 4 depending on the force applied. Grade 1 & 2 are used for acute cases and help with pain relief. Grade 3 & 4 are used to relocate the disc and vertebrae in the correct position and increase mobility.
